Recycling
8 April 2011
For about 12 years we have been recycling cartridges and all the money we have received has been sent to Frimley Park Hospital for the benefit of their various appeals – a total of over £19,000.00 in all.
From this year we have decided that we will split the money that we receive from recycled cartridges between Frimley Park Hospital and Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.
Of course, without the unstinting help of our customers, this would not happen. A 'BIG THANKYOU' to all our customers and please keep the cartridges coming.
In 2010 we can proudly say that we have collected and recycled over 2,000 printer cartridges. We work in partnership with a recycling company called ERS Europe Ltd who specialise in recycling printer cartridges and mobile phones and are the market leader in their field. If printer cartridges are thrown away with your normal rubbish, they will usually end up being buried in landfill where they can take over 1,000 years to biodegrade whilst leaking harmful chemicals into the environment. Printer Cartridges can in fact be reused many times over saving a litre of oil each time when compared to manufacturing a fresh one. That’s why we are proud to be associated with ERS Europe and doing our part to protect the environment for generations to come.
We also recycle another 1000 plus cartridges a year through JetTec and we also return 1000 plus Epson Inkjet cartridges through Epson’s cartridge collection service.
We have raised over £18,000 (as at December 2010) towards several fundraising appeals at our local hospital by collecting printer cartridges for recycling. We began recycling printer cartridges to raise money for Frimley Park Hospital about seven years ago and have contributed to the hospital's former Life Saver Appeal, Transitional Care Baby Unit, Safer Surgery Appeal and now the Trust's current Heart 2 Heart Cardiology Appeal. So far over £2,200 has been donated to Frimley Park Hospital’s latest appeal Heart 2 Heart.
Frimley Park is our local hospital - many of our staff have needed its services as well as several of our friends who live locally. Back in the early days we heard about the hospital's various appeals and decided we wanted to support them. The hospital serves our local community well and it is such a worthwhile cause.
We promote the recycling scheme to customers when printer cartridges are purchased and will also collect used cartridges from customers direct.
We feel it's important to us that we give something back to the local community in return for supporting us as a business for the past 17 years. And apart from raising money for the hospital, we think it's a good thing to encourage recycling.
